Are you making a resolution for 2019? You may have heard that more than half of all resolutions fail, but this year, that doesn’t have to be true for you. We’ve asked around the Maximal Concepts office and came up with attainable resolutions that every Hong Konger will appreciate.
- Automate Octopus card payments.
“I’ve lived here for 5 years now and only just learned that you can automate your Octopus card! In 2019, this is definitely something I’ll be changing as I am usually the friend who has to make everyone wait while I get a new ticket or mooch for change for said ticket. While I’m at it, maybe I should take the time to automate my phone bill…”
- Walk more, taxi less.
“Taxis are so affordable in Hong Kong compared to the rest of the world, that it doesn’t seem that big of a deal to take a taxi from Central to Causeway Bay, and sure if I’m in a hurry, there’s value in that. But if I have the time, I’m going to start walking from Point A to Point B because not only am I getting more steps in, there’s also so much to see when you’re walking around a beautiful city like ours.”
- Learn to haggle.
“This seems to be a skill you naturally posess. In 2019, I’m going to work on haggling more at street markets so I don’t end up paying 200 dollars for plastic prayer beads on Cat Street. We’ve all been there!”
- Remember your umbrella at all times.
“As of 2018, I do not own an umbrella which also means that as of 2018, I’ve had to walk in the pouring rain on multiple occasions. So this year, as weather is sure to worsen even more, my resolution is to buy and remember my umbrella every day. You never know when it’s going to be a drizzle or Red Rain!”
- Act like a tourist.
“When friends come to town, you end up taking them to all of the touristy spots that Hong Kong is known for and that you never want to go to as a expat. But in 2019, my resolution is to make the effort to see the sights and experience Hong Kong with new eyes and take advantage of everything this beautiful city has to offer while I can!”
